THE ENGINEERS EMPLOYMENT LIAISON FACILITY (EELF)
The Act 1997

Background

The Engineers Registration Board is a statutory body established under the Engineers Registration Act, No. 15 of 1997 and has been given the responsibility for regulating the engineering activities and conduct of engineers and engineering consulting firms. Pursuant to this regulatory function, the Board has been visiting engineering organizations, firms, projects and building sites in order to monitor the conduct and activities of engineers as well as ensuring that engineering activities are performed by properly qualified engineers only.

During the visits the Board observed that a number of organizations were facing difficulties of getting Tanzanian engineers with requisite professional experience to fill various engineering positions in their organizations. These organizations therefore requested for assistance from the Board. On the other hand unemployment of qualified engineers in the country is commonplace. Some such engineers have even left their particulars with the Board so that the latter may link the engineers with potential employers.

In view of the above, the Board resolved to establish the Engineers Employment Liaison Facility (EELF) at the ERB Secretariat that will link engineers seeking employment with potential employers. To be effective the unit will work very closely with Labour Exchange Centre and engineering training institutions in the country.

Advantages of EELF

The Board decided to establish the Facility after taking coquizance of its advantages which include, among others, the following:

(1) Compliance with the Law of the Land as employers are assured of employing registered engineers only;
(2) As the service is free, unnecessary advertising expenses, for which there is no certainty of getting qualified engineers, are avoided;
(3) Shorter recruitment time (as advertisements are eliminated) hence minimal production losses;
(4) Savings in personnel costs as posts which would otherwise be filled by expensive foreign engineers will be filled by local engineers; etc
Call for Registration with EELF

The Engineers Employment Liaison Facility has now been fully established. The Board therefore wishes to call upon engineers seeking employment to register with the Board by completing Form No. ERB/EELF/001. Employers looking for engineers are also advised to complete Form No. ERB/EELF/002.
