The Engineers Registration Board (ERB) is a statutory body established by an Act of Parliament (Engineers Registration Act No. 15 of 1997). The Board has been given the responsibility and mandate for regulating engineering activities and conduct of engineers and engineering consulting firms in Tanzania.

Sections 4(a) and 4(b) of the Act, stipulates among the main functions of the Board as being “to maintain and keep a register of engineers, including consulting engineers or Firms providing Engineering Services” and “to Consider and decide on applications for registration”. The goals of the two functions of the Board under the above respective sections of the Act are achieved through the process of Registration of Engineers and Engineering Consulting Firms.
